On May 12, participants in FAAE’s Digital Media Festival will get a close up look, and a better yet, a chance to experience the Digital Worlds Institute (DWI) at University of Florida. Guided by director James Oliverio since it was formed in 2001, DWI is a partnership between the UF College of Fine Arts and the College of Engineering, and the School of Journalism and Communication, they have added partnerships across half a dozen additional Colleges at the University of Florida.

DJ Adrian Villaverde to appear on the AV CLUB Show at the new Sante Fe Theatre

Former Sante Fe College student Adrian Villaverde returns to Gainesville as the headliner for AV CLUB 2011 show on Saturday, October 22 at the new Sante Fe College Fine Arts Hall.  Villaverde established himself in the Miami club scene and is now an internationally recognized producer of dance music. Adrian has performed with artists and DJ’s including Benny Benassi, Porter Robinson, Laidback Luke, Wally Lopez and was tapped to open for Grammy Nominated Wolfgang Gartner, one of the Top 100 DJ’s in the world. Gainesville DJ Aeriform will also be on hand to lend support to the show with his compelling mixes.

Sharing the stage with the DJs will be an eclectic variety of musical talent, many of whom are actually former or current University of Florida and Sante Fe College students.

Persons wishing to be considered to be the Host/Emcee the OCT 22 AV CLUB SHOW event in Sante Fe’s new Theatre must be:


-Energetic
-Able to improvise and work a young college crowd between the various
different acts/artists on AVClub Show
- able to follow general direction and know the names of each and every
one of the artists so they can be properly and enthusiastically introduced
and acknowledged as they leave the stage
- in contact with Digital Worlds Institute by phone (352) 294-2020 ASAP to set up their appointment time. Make this call ideally no later than EOD Friday OCT 14 but certainly by Noon Monday OCT 17

His life and innovations touched many…including a state of the art digital arts program at the University of Florida.

Directors of the program say their institute is designed to help students become more like Steve Jobs.

Catching a play, musical act or dance performance Monday was as easy as walking around the University of Florida campus.

The 12-hour marathon of cultural happenings, called “random acts of culture,” was intended to increase awareness and appreciation of artistic opportunities at UF. It marked the kickoff to a month celebrating the arts and humanities at the university and beyond.

Alligator: Organization fair celebrates national arts, humanities

Artistic students met the first Monday of October with a dancing gold crystal and a flash mob on the Reitz Union Colonnade.

The UF College of Fine Arts and the Fine Arts College Council hosted an arts and cultural opportunities fair Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Reitz Colonnade in celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month.

With about 70 campus and local clubs and organizations participating, the fair offered students a chance to find unique ways to connect with the art community.

UF kicking off National Arts and Humanities Month with an arts and cultural opportunities fair

Oct. 3 is marked as the “kick-off” date for the National Arts and Humanities Month (NAHM), with an Arts and Cultural Opportunities Fair to feature community and campus organizations related to arts, culture and humanities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the J. Wayne Reitz Union colonnade. Participation is free to attendees.

There will be a special presentation at noon during the fair. Dignitaries and guest speakers, including UF President Bernie Machen and Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Hawkins, will address attendees. President Machen is expected to talk about the importance of arts and humanities in the higher education learning experience and Mayor Hawkins will present a proclamation on behalf of the City of Gainesville.

National Arts and Humanities Month is almost here!

National Arts and Humanities Month is upon us and the University of Florida has some great events planned for its celebration, the first of which are less than a week away on Monday, October 3! Don’t miss your chance to help kick off NAHM with gusto!

The Kick Off events on Oct. 3 are:

12-hour Cultural Marathon
“Random acts of culture” throughout campus, aimed to increase awareness, appreciation and excitement for artistic opportunities at UF.
Spontaneous locations on UF Campus, Oct. 3, 8am - 8pm

UF Campus Opportunities Fair
Academic units pair with students and community organizations to promote opportunities to join, explore and enjoy the arts and humanities in our area.
Reitz Union Colonade, Oct. 3, 10am - 3pm
