The class is designed for all students, regardless of musical background.
Have you ever wondered why music moves you and why it has so much power over us? “How Music Works” is a fine arts class on the exploration of the function of musical composition and expression. Students will examine the internal workings of music to uncover how and why music impacts the human psyche. They will study musical examples from a variety of cultures and time periods, make music in class and read about the techniques of musical creation and its importance in society.
The course is appropriate for all students with a love of music and a curiosity about how it functions. Prior experience is welcome but not required, and students do not need to have music reading ability in order to participate.
